Volunteer at Oasis. Help make a difference in your community by joining us at one of our programming sessions:

  • Elder Companionship: spend time visiting and connecting with an Elder at a long-term care facility 
  • Cultural Workshops: support facilitators and staff and participate in meaningful activities
  • Community Dinners: Help with set-up, serving food, and cleaning up at our weekly dinners
  • Community Bingo: Assist with calling, set-up, and clean-up
  • Special Skills and Services: Professional skills (barber, wellness, other)
  • Land-Based Outings: Support cultural and community-based outdoor experiences 

We offer:

Oasis is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all clients, volunteers, staff, and community members. A safe environment is one where individuals can trust that their privacy is protected and that their personal information will not be shared without their consent.

As a volunteer, you may become aware of personal or sensitive information. This information must be kept strictly confidential.

Personal information that must NOT be shared without permission includes, but is not limited to:

-A person’s name, contact details, address, marital status, or employment history (any identifying information)
-Information about where they came from or their personal circumstances
-Details about their family, friends, or the whereabouts of others (especially individuals outside of Victoria or Canada)
-Whether someone is a client of VIRCS or participates in programs, workshops, or events
-Whether someone volunteers or receives services
-Whether someone visits the centre or uses its facilities

As a volunteer, you are expected to build safe and respectful relationships with clients and fellow team members. Please maintain a professional, discreet, and respectful approach in all interactions and responsibilities.

If you believe you may have unintentionally shared confidential information, or if you witness a potential breach of privacy, report it immediately to a staff member. Prompt reporting helps us respond appropriately and protect the well-being of clients, visitors, and volunteers.

At Oasis, everyone must be treated with respect and fairness, no matter their race, religion, or culture.

Please be mindful of your words and actions, especially in shared or public spaces. People around you may have different backgrounds and may be sensitive to what is said or done.

By agreeing, I confirm that:

-I understand that some information I provide may be shared with Oasis staff and, when needed, with other volunteers
-I give permission for Oasis to use photos of me in promotional materials and on social media
-I give permission for my application information to be shared with Oasis staff
